How do I create new blocks in the Email Composer Editor?

Content Blocks and Tools

The Composer editor is a drag-and-drop editor. When you create a new email, you will see this page:

To the left are the block icons. Drag a widget icon into an empty block in your email to insert a piece of content.

At the top right are the preview, test, publishing, save and delete buttons. Some of these will be greyed out and unclickable until after you have added some content to the email, and/or saved it for the first time.

The red Delete button will be available after you save the email for the first time. This button will permanently delete the email.

The Desktop, Mobile and Text buttons allow you to preview the desktop, mobile and text versions of your email respectively. You can also edit the text version manually, if you prefer.

The Choose Preview Recipient menu allows you to select an example recipient to preview any personalisations or dynamic content rules you have set up in your email.

The blue Test button allows you to send a test to a single email address or test group. As with the other Suite modules, a test email does not cost any credits to send.

The green Publish button allows you to publish the email. Click here for more information about publishing from Email Composer.

The Save button allows you to save the email. You can name the email, place it into a folder, and give it a description.

 Rows and Blocks

The content of an email is made up of rows and blocks. A block is a chunk of content (eg. an article or an image) and a row is a row of blocks across the page.

The row below, in red, is made up of two blocks. These blocks are indicated by grey arrows. Different blocks in a row are separated by dotted grey lines.

Header and Footer Rows

There are two special rows at the top and bottom of each blank email. These are the header and footer rows, and they cannot be deleted. They are indicated by the diagonal lines in the blocks, and by the H and F icons to the side of the email. These are marked in orange below.

Row and Block Options

Hovering over a block will bring up some options:

Adding a new row above or below an existing row allows you add more content into your email. Depending on the wireframe you are using, you may be able to add a row containing more than one block.

You can use keyboard shortcuts to move or delete a whole row of blocks in one go. Click here for more information about keyboard shortcuts.

Adding Dynamic Content Rules to a block allows you to specify which segment/s of your audience will see the block when the email is published. You can set rules based on mail groups, field values, and activity.
